HYCON Executive Commander's Journal
3/11/115 YC

-

Commander Reid Ardorei takes a seat in his quarters, sipping his hot Intakian tea and thinking over the things he wants to say in his first log entry. So much had happened so fast, especially with the departure of his good friend Mep Soto, that he simply hadn't found the time to record his thoughts until now. Not able to get completely comfortable, he decides to stand, setting his tea down and speaking boldly and clearly his command.

"Begin log."

A small chirp confirms the computer waiting for his words. He wastes no more time.

"It has only been a few short months since Captain Mep Soto and myself decided to begin The Halcyon Initiative, and I've decided it's time to keep a log of our progress. When I reflect over this time, while much has been accomplished, I can't help but think about how far off course we've gone from our original goals and aspirations."

"Both he and I wanted to try to reach beyond the troubles of empire space and try to explore further into this galaxy. Seek the unknown and promote peace. The plan seemed very simple at first, but I suppose many plans start just that way. It pleases me to know, however, that he and I's conscience haven't been affected by our gifts of immortality. Now, even through the unfortunate absence of my dear friend, The Halcyon Directive is doing what must be done to help the Minmatar people obtain the complete freedom that is rightfully theirs."

"While fleet training for the war effort has gone well enough, particularly with pilots like Captain Jessica Reiss in our ranks, our R&D situation has been slower getting off the ground. The programs that our brilliant CTO Namoi Walker has engineered are more than sound, but we simply do not have enough staff at the moment, and raw materials are in short supply. She doesn't strike me as one to give up easily though, and I know we'll figure it all out. Her previous breakthroughs in science are evidence of this inevitability. Senior Excavation Controllers such as Nightlund Audele and Sky Altruir are also going to be essential in making this all work. Their determination to get the job done is commendable."

"So far we have struck more blows to the 24th Imperial Crusade than we have suffered, but our tactics have by no means been perfect. Flying well is a necessary goal not only for defeating the Amarr, but for keeping costs down, and it's something we will continue to strive to perfect. We have some captains who have been showing great promise such as Captains Adeou Aviadre, Decain Alizarin and Kashi Dahkkash. Their efforts have easily helped us achieve the victories we have gotten so far."

"That all being said, it can't be stated enough how incredible either the bravery, or insanity, of Captain Jessica Reiss is. It goes without saying that us Capsuleers can be quite reckless with minimal consequence in many situations, however she takes it to another level. After all, while we can be reckless with our lives, we cannot necessarily be reckless with our wallets. In either event, she keeps flying, and her success in this conflict for the Tribal Liberation Forces and this corporation hasn't gone unnoticed. As a matter of fact, she is building quite the reputation in the Metropolis region. Hopefully it doesn't go to her head.""As a corporation, I'd say we are easily not the worst around, and we are making progress. However, joining an alliance is almost key when most significant corporations are doing the same. We have been very careful about who we try to join, and right now the best choice seems to be with Electus Matari. This alliance is dedicated to fighting for the Minmatar people and removing not only the Amarr, but also the pirate threat from Minmatar space. Seeing as how this objective clearly aligns with our current objective, we will continue to explore this opportunity and see if it is truly right for us. So far, talks have went well, and our first operation together went smoothly enough. Only time will tell."

"Regardless of Captain Soto's and I's dreams of 'exploring the heavens,' I've fully embraced the current direction of The Halcyon Directive. A cause such as this is just, no matter how difficult the struggle. The Minmatar people need our help, and we will not turn away. When we have done all we can for them, we will move on and see where the future leads us. End log."
