HCYON Executive Commander's Journal
3/25/115

“Tribal Liberation Forces continue to push the 24th Imperial Crusade out of their space with great determination, leaving only a few key systems still under Amarrian control. If things keep going the way they are, The Halcyon Directive could find itself heading a new direction sooner than previously thought. Several of our pilots, especially Captain Jessica Reiss, are almost bored to tears, as training exercises can only provide so much entertainment. Her and Captain Decain Alizarin in recent patrols have had very little to report, let alone shoot at, at all. Either way, great news, and I hope that the Minmatar can continue this success, and beyond, even as supplementary forces withdraw.”

Reid smiles slightly as he continues.

“Also, a surprising victory has occurred for the Gallente, as Tibus Heth's hold over Caldari Prime has been all but lost. With his symbolic Titan, the Shiigeru, in ruins on the planet below, I feel confident that we may completely retake it once again. I'm impressed with President Roden's call to action in this matter, and regardless of the rumors that swirl about the capsuleer, it's hard to find complaint in his leadership as of yet. Whatever his past may be, what truly matters is the present, and this was a victory we really needed. I do not completely lack respect for Tibus Heth, however, his blind hatred for the Federation is something I can never accept nor understand. Much more could be accomplished by working together. Then again for many, when there is no real trust, logic and reason tend to be harder to utilize.”

HCYON Executive Commander's Journal

“Our formal application to the Electus Matari alliance has finally been submitted. Unfortunately, they are dealing with some internal issues and the process will more than likely be slowed. While I can certainly understand this sort of problem, I can't help but think back to our previous application to Ushra'Khan. What at first seemed to be a small issue eventually lead to them losing members, entirely leaving the pocket, and forcing us to rescind our application. However, I feel more confident in this case that things will iron out soon and we can move forward in joining the alliance.”

“We continue to have a respectable amount of success in the war effort, and it seems that the Tribal Liberation Forces have made an incredible push against the 24th Imperial Crusade. At the time of this writing, we have achieved victory in many of the surrounding star systems. Only time will tell if we can maintain what we have taken, or better yet, push for complete victory. That all being said, I have learned to never count an enemy out that still has the will to fight. Anything can happen.”

After a much needed post-patrol shower, Reid steps over to his couch and sits, slowly settling his first cup of hot Intakian tea on the table. He rubs his neck, eyes watching the images on the vid screen, but his thoughts on the night's events. Picking the cup back up, he shrugs with a faint smirk, taking his first sip and beginning the log.

“Tonight The Halcyon Directive scored two sound victories in its operations. The first was a gang of pirates attacking fellow TLF pilots, and the second was against the 24th Imperial Crusade. In all we destroyed nine enemy capsuleer ships. I believe we are improving at a rapid pace, and tonight was evidence of that improvement. We took some calculated risks and they paid off brilliantly.”

“We confused the pirate gang easily by clipping off one of their pilots as they were pursuing our allies. Once the rest of the gang failed to catch their prey, they came back to see what happened to their friend. As they were flying around the wreckage, we warped in on them, surprising them and taking out most of their fleet. It was a quick and complete victory.”

“Captain Jessica Reiss once again impresses me with not only her ability as a pilot, but her cunning and daring. In the fight against the Amarrian fleet, she took the brunt of their initial attack when she intercepted them in Frerstorn, holding their attention for long enough for me to get there and defeat their entire fleet. While Jessica's Harpy didn't make it, she was in another within the half hour, and the spoils of our victories more than made up for it. Not that it matters, as her resources seem to be unlimited and she doesn't seem to care if she loses a ship or not, as long as she flying.”

“I am proud that we can contribute these successes to the Minmatar people. It's hard not to feel that our efforts in the grand scheme of things can, at times, seem like a drop in the bucket, but I can only hope that our victories will continue, and somehow the push for peace be furthered by them.”

Reid ends the log and takes another sip of his tea, leaning back to relax for the remainder of the evening.

Commander Reid Ardorei takes a seat in his quarters, sipping his hot Intakian tea and thinking over the things he wants to say in his first log entry. So much had happened so fast, especially with the departure of his good friend Mep Soto, that he simply hadn't found the time to record his thoughts until now. Not able to get completely comfortable, he decides to stand, setting his tea down and speaking boldly and clearly his command.

"Begin log."

A small chirp confirms the computer waiting for his words. He wastes no more time.

"It has only been a few short months since Captain Mep Soto and myself decided to begin The Halcyon Initiative, and I've decided it's time to keep a log of our progress. When I reflect over this time, while much has been accomplished, I can't help but think about how far off course we've gone from our original goals and aspirations."

"Both he and I wanted to try to reach beyond the troubles of empire space and try to explore further into this galaxy. Seek the unknown and promote peace. The plan seemed very simple at first, but I suppose many plans start just that way. It pleases me to know, however, that he and I's conscience haven't been affected by our gifts of immortality. Now, even through the unfortunate absence of my dear friend, The Halcyon Directive is doing what must be done to help the Minmatar people obtain the complete freedom that is rightfully theirs."

"While fleet training for the war effort has gone well enough, particularly with pilots like Captain Jessica Reiss in our ranks, our R&D situation has been slower getting off the ground. The programs that our brilliant CTO Namoi Walker has engineered are more than sound, but we simply do not have enough staff at the moment, and raw materials are in short supply. She doesn't strike me as one to give up easily though, and I know we'll figure it all out. Her previous breakthroughs in science are evidence of this inevitability. Senior Excavation Controllers such as Nightlund Audele and Sky Altruir are also going to be essential in making this all work. Their determination to get the job done is commendable."

"So far we have struck more blows to the 24th Imperial Crusade than we have suffered, but our tactics have by no means been perfect. Flying well is a necessary goal not only for defeating the Amarr, but for keeping costs down, and it's something we will continue to strive to perfect. We have some captains who have been showing great promise such as Captains Adeou Aviadre, Decain Alizarin and Kashi Dahkkash. Their efforts have easily helped us achieve the victories we have gotten so far."

"That all being said, it can't be stated enough how incredible either the bravery, or insanity, of Captain Jessica Reiss is. It goes without saying that us Capsuleers can be quite reckless with minimal consequence in many situations, however she takes it to another level. After all, while we can be reckless with our lives, we cannot necessarily be reckless with our wallets. In either event, she keeps flying, and her success in this conflict for the Tribal Liberation Forces and this corporation hasn't gone unnoticed. As a matter of fact, she is building quite the reputation in the Metropolis region. Hopefully it doesn't go to her head.""As a corporation, I'd say we are easily not the worst around, and we are making progress. However, joining an alliance is almost key when most significant corporations are doing the same. We have been very careful about who we try to join, and right now the best choice seems to be with Electus Matari. This alliance is dedicated to fighting for the Minmatar people and removing not only the Amarr, but also the pirate threat from Minmatar space. Seeing as how this objective clearly aligns with our current objective, we will continue to explore this opportunity and see if it is truly right for us. So far, talks have went well, and our first operation together went smoothly enough. Only time will tell."

"Regardless of Captain Soto's and I's dreams of 'exploring the heavens,' I've fully embraced the current direction of The Halcyon Directive. A cause such as this is just, no matter how difficult the struggle. The Minmatar people need our help, and we will not turn away. When we have done all we can for them, we will move on and see where the future leads us. End log."
